Currently SACM has built a consortium of 24 teaching hospitals and universities who are interested in participating in the direct placement of our residents. In addition, the medical unite in SACM have made several arrangement with other health institutions to accept research fellows for one year and to accept short-term rotation in hospitals for undergraduate medical students who want to get their summer training in USA.
The medical unite is very well positioned now to place more doctors within the regular placement cycle beginning September/09.
Medical residency programs in the USA are almost exclusively set up to accept new residents through the National Resident Matching Program. Teaching hospitals work on a highly structured timetable for application review, interview, and acceptance base on the specific needs of each hospital.
The biggest challenges the Medical Residency Placement Program faced in the start up phase were familiarizing universities and hospitals with the possibility of placing residents outside the match process. Building such a fundamentally new program within the existing hospitals structure requires collaboration and approval between the Graduate Medical Education Committees, the legal department, the international department directors, and the residency program chairs. It is a very time consuming process that took months of hard work and a great deal of communications back and forth. The following list indicates the agreements that SACM has made so far with hospitals and universities to accept our residents under the general admission conditions. It should be mentioned that all communications with these institutions should be through SACM. No personal or individual contacts are accepted.
